At Afapinen, we simply seek your best thoughts on art: this could be a literary criticism essay, review, culture criticism, or photography and visual art writing. We have preference for works with a more critical bent, meaning: explore questions of the artistic; intersect the politics of ideas; history; what it means to celebrate art and culture; and the ways of thinking. We also consider long-form nonfiction or any surprise. Send your submission to editorafapinen@gmail.com, keeping in mind a word count of 1200 to 6000 max.
We pay an honorarium for accepted works. This varies based on the submission, but with a starting threshold of N15,000.
For essays, use the subject “Essay Submission,” and please, send only a not-more-than 200-word abstract for consideration to the email above. If your submission is nonfiction, use the subject “Nonfiction Submission,” include a cover letter in the body of the email and attach nonfiction as doc. We rarely publish poetry, but if that is your interest, send reflections on poetry or notes on craft.
After sending a piece, give us 2 weeks to respond.
